Studio shooting plan: Essential things to consider

In any type of shooting, good planning is fundamental, and for this, there is a key document: the shooting plan. En el post de hoy os contamos how to create a good shooting plan, especially when carrying out a project in a recording studio, like the ones we have at AVisual STUDIOS in Barcelona or Madrid.

What is a shooting plan?

A shooting plan is a detailed document that establishes the scheduling and logistics of the production of any audiovisual project. Its main objective is to optimize the available time and resources, ensuring that the production is carried out successfully and within the established budget. That’s why creating a well-structured shooting plan facilitates coordination between the various departments involved in the production and helps us avoid logistical problems during the filming process.

In certain projects, we practically carry the shooting plan in our heads or there are certain aspects that must be improvised due to the requirements of the shoot. However, having a well-prepared shooting plan should be fundamental in any type of project, especially when the shooting is done in a rental studio. Otherwise, as we mentioned, many economic, human, and technical resources can be wasted.

What should a shooting plan include?

  • Scene data: This includes a detailed description of the scene, including dialogues and actions. Reference should also be made to technical recording issues, including lighting and sound.
  • Location: The physical location of all scenes should be detailed, adding whether it is an interior or exterior space.
  • Characters and props: All characters should be included, as well as the props or set that are part of each scene.
  • Shooting times: An estimate of the time dedicated to each take should be calculated, including breaks and location changes if necessary.

In addition to all the mentioned aspects, the points to include in a shooting plan may vary depending on the characteristics of the project. For example, if the shooting is done in a studio, in addition to all of the above, it’s important to consider the following elements.

Fundamental aspects for studio shooting

  • Electrical power and internet: The electrical power, as well as the studio’s internet, are fundamental aspects to guarantee the viability of the project. Make sure that the studio you choose meets the technical characteristics you need to carry out all actions.
  • Lighting: As in the previous case, lighting is also a key aspect. A good option is to choose a recording studio that already has a basic lighting system included in the price. For example, at AVisual STUDIOS, each of our sets has suspended LED panels, with intensity and color temperature adjustable by DMX.
  • Studio measurements: It is essential to take into account the length, width, and height of the space where the recording will take place to ensure that it meets the characteristics required by the type of production.
  • Production material: If the chosen studio has work tables, material transport carts, clothing racks… that will clearly be a point in its favor. Within the production area, it’s also important that you include realization rooms, if necessary, or wardrobe and makeup rooms.
  • Rest areas: Another area that encompasses production and is of vital importance is having a rest area annexed to the shooting set so that staff, actors, and guests can wait comfortably.

Remember that, in addition to all of the above, at AVisual STUDIOS we provide you with all the rental equipment you need to carry out your project. And, if on the day of the shoot you have forgotten something, we have for sale all those consumables essential to ensure you have everything you need.
